Elden Ring Player Shares Clip of Boss-Killing Glitch

An Elden Ring clip captures a rare bug that somehow allows the player to defeat a key boss despite being nowhere near their location.

Elden Ring is a massive game with layers of systems and mechanics built on top of each other. Not only does this mean that it will typically take Elden Ring players dozens of hours - if not replays of the game - to discover everything Elden Ring has to offer, but it also means that some players will miss difficult-to-find aspects of Elden Ring entirely. Certain glitches, the kind that speedrunners find and exploit, are an incredibly rare example of this. Yet one Elden Ring player recently managed to capitalize on just such a glitch for an endgame boss fight.

A video clip shared by Reddit user UnkemptTuba48 shows what appears to be an impossible defeat of an endgame Elden Ring boss. The player is currently in front of a completely different boss fight, Sir Gideon Ofnir. They've summoned an ally using a Furled Finger and is applying his buffs before starting the fight. However, as they finish casting their Protection of the Erdtree Incantation, "Legend Felled" appears on-screen and they receive the Remembrance of Hoarah Loux.

Those who have played Elden Ring before will recall that Hoarah Loux is a boss encountered following the defeat of Sir Gideon Ofnir, a boss nowhere near the location the player was standing. In other words, there's no possible way for them to have legitimately killed Hoarah Loux. If the clipped video looks like a glitch, that's because it is.

While it's impossible to say exactly what killed Hoarah Loux without a more thorough understanding of the Elden Ring game state at that specific moment, there is a very likely explanation. There's a glitch that speedrunners can use that spawns a boss while despawning their boss arena. The boss then falls to their death, providing an instant kill. This Elden Ring exploit is typically very difficult to set up and execute, however, so how this player managed it without any knowledge of the glitch is a mystery.

In fact, this clip may be especially interesting to Elden Ring speedrunners. Not every speedrun involves defeating Hoarah Loux, but for the ones that do, this may be a fast way of killing them. As for whether the glitch can be reproduced and completed on command, that's a different story entirely.

It just goes to show that any given playthrough of Elden Ring can surprise in unexpected ways. Maybe it's an enemy hidden in a cave previously unexplored, a piece of armor or a weapon dropping that didn't drop before, or one of Elden Ring's toughest bosses dropping through the earth before they've even been reached. Sometimes, FromSoftware adds layers to its games without even trying.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
