While exploring Fallout 4's Railroad Headquarters, a player finds an NPC that quickly returns to their feet after losing both arms to an explosion.

There are four primary factions in Fallout 4: the Brotherhood of Steel, The Railroad, The Institute, and The Commonwealth Minutemen, and each offers its own unique content to explore and rewards to unlock. One Fallout 4 player was doing some Railroad content as they caught an unexpected moment when a Railroad Agent blows themselves up.

Reddit user HellmannsRealityMayo recently posted a brief Fallout 4 clip in which they are at The Railroad headquarters in the Old North Church. Fallout 4 players need to follow a series of clues scattered around the post-apocalyptic Boston Commonwealth to discover this faction hideout that provides another hub in addition to The Prydwen and countless Minutemen Settlements. The central Railroad location is part of a large network of catacombs located underneath parts of Boston and the Old North Church, and the cramped hallways have some holes taken out of the walls, which are vulnerabilities to the infrastructure normally guarded by Railroad Agents.

HellmannsRealityMayo's video begins with the Fallout 4 fan standing next to one of the unsuspecting Railroad Agents guarding the entrance to Tinker Tom's workshop in Railroad HQ. Tinker Tom states that "the math looks tight," before the nearby Railroad Agent's gun seemingly explodes which causes the NPC to fall to the ground in a heap without their arms. The Railroad Agent then returns to their feet after a short spurt of blood from their wounds and appears unfazed as Tinker Tom says, "yeah, too much nitroglycerin. Back to the drawing board," suggesting The Railroad Quartermaster set the nameless NPC up for failure.

After the Railroad Agent's unfortunate accident in HellmannsRealityMayo's clip, Nick Valentine runs up to the armless character in reaction to the explosion. The Railroad Agent then faces the player to say "vault blue, huh? Not a bad look" which confirms that the NPC has been barely affected by the blast or their missing arms. HellmannsRealityMayo's Fallout 4 clip then ends with the player interacting with the injured Railroad Agent to get some sort of reaction that reflects the events that unfolded, but instead, they're told about running Synths out of the Commonwealth.

Although most Fallout 4 NPCs are killed from explosions like the one shown in HellmannsRealityMayo's clip, the Fallout 4 player admitted that an installed mod may have kept the character alive. Given the fact that the Railroad Agent affected by this explosion is nameless and provides little else to the Fallout 4 Railroad gameplay, it's unlikely that HellmannsRealityMayo would've been too negatively impacted if the character died instead. According to HellmannsRealityMayo, there's a mod called Live Dismemberment installed on their Fallout 4 playthrough which allows NPCs to brush off the loss of limbs like in the case of the Railroad Agent's arms that were blown off.

Fallout 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
